RIFF COHEN

Riff Cohen is an Israeli singer, songwriter and actress, born in Tel Aviv. She describes her music as a fusion of Central European urban rock, North African folk and rai, a form of Algerian folk music. She spent her childhood with her parents in the posh Ramat Aviv Gimmel neighbourhood. Her father's family was from Djerba, a Tunisian island, and her mother's family came from Tlemcen, the second largest city in northwest Algeria, which is also the capital of the province of the same name.

After finishing music school in Tel Aviv, she began to pursue her own career. In 2008, she won an artistic scholarship and moved to Paris. Four years later, in 2012, she self-released her album "A Paris". The single with the same title as the album has had over four million views on YouTube. You will hear fourteen songs, four of which are in Hebrew, one in Nubian and the rest are in French. She was also nominated for the 2012 MTV Europe Music Award in the Best Israeli Artist category, but did not confirm the nomination. In September of the same year, she signed with AZ Records, and performed in Tel Aviv as an opening act for the Red Hot Chili Peppers as part of their "I'm with you" world tour. She also appeared in the film "A bottle in the Gaza sea" directed by Thierry Binisti. In 2013, she received the ACUM Award for Discovery and Achievement of the Year. A year later, she collaborated with the French psychedelic rock band "Moodoïd" on the album "Le Monde Möö". Riff has two children and interestingly, her mother Patricia writes the lyrics to the songs in French.
